I was lucky to be welcomed to visit the homes of the pupils I was teaching in Khayelitsha, a township outside Cape Town SA. The first shack was the home of a mother and her 7 children in 1 room. The second was the home of a grandmother, her 3 daughters and their 9 children. 13 people living in 2 rooms. One daughter was working to support the whole family but was only taking home £6 a day after her taxi costs. Her youngest children often cry with hunger as she hasn't enough food to go around. The older children are fed in school. When it rains, these homes are full of water and the children often can't attend school when it rains as they haven't any raincoats or appropriate shoes. 💔
We should be so thankful for all that we have in this life and all we can do is continue to support these families in any way we can. #melloneducate
